Jessica Chastain to produce and star in Painkiller Jane adaptation

November 11, 2016 by Ricky Church

Another graphic novel adaptation is set to hit the big screen as Deadline reports Interstellar actress Jessica Chastain will produce and star as the title role in Painkiller Jane. She’ll play the title heroine who was created by longtime comic writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada.

The series sees New York City cop Jane Vasko recruited into the FBI to infiltrate the city’s drug and human trafficking ring. After being set-up by the mob boss, Jane is nearly killed but somehow gains regenerative abilities that heal her wounds in a matter of seconds, though she still feels the pain from an injury. Jane goes on a spree for vengeance and justice against those who wronged her. Throughout her history, Painkiller Jane has had several mini-series and has even joined forces with various other heroes like The Punisher and Hellboy.

Painkiller Jane was previously adapted as a made-for-TV movie starring Emmanuelle Vaugier as Jane for the Sci-Fi Channel, which then led to an unconnected television series starring Kristanna Loken for Sci-Fi. Chastain will produce through her Freckle Films company alongside Lotus Entertainment’s Lenny Beckerman and Solipsist Films’ Stephen L’Heureux. As of now no release date, director or other cast members have been chosen, but check back here for more details as they come.
