John Wick spinoff Ballerina moved to 2025 in order to add more action sequences

February 22, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Lionsgate’s eagerly anticipated Ana de Armas-headlined John Wick spinoff Ballerina has been pushed back to 2025.

According to Deadline the Len Wiseman-directed franchise expander has been delayed a year from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025 so that John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski can help with some additional action sequences to make the film even better than it already is.

Flying into the release slot vacated by Ballerina is Rupert Sanders (Ghost in the Shell) long-gestating reboot of The Crow, which stars Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs as tragic lovers Eric Draven and Shelly Webster.

Part of Lionsgate’s ambitious plans for their John Wick universe, which will be overseen by Stahelski and include more spinoffs, limited series, and anime, Ballerina focuses on de Armas’ Rooney, one of the ballerinas trained by Angelica Huston’s Director at the school featured in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The film will follow Rooney on her quest for vengeance against the people who murdered her family.

Starring alongside de Armas is the returning Ian McShane, veterans Anjelica Huston and the late Lance Reddick, with Keanu Reeves making a brief appearance as the franchise hero. New additions to the world of brutal espionage include Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Catalina Sandino Moreno (From).
