John Woo to remake The Killer for Peacock

May 7, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Peacock has wooed John Woo into directing an English language remake of his 1989 Hong Kong action classic The Killer, the streamer has announced.

One of Woo’s early heroic bloodshed hits, The Killer saw Chow Yun-Fat starring as an assassin who ends up accidently blinding a nightclub singer on what is meant to be his final hit and decides to take on one last job in order to pay for her to have an operation.

“We know people join Peacock to watch movies, so we are constantly adding more to serve fans,” said Peacock President Kelly Campbell. “Together with the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, we are excited to deliver fresh, exclusive, original films next year to our customers in addition to the legendary Universal Pictures blockbuster films and beloved franchises streaming now.”

The Killer is slated to arrive on Peacock at some point in 2023 and will continue Woo’s Hollywood comeback, having recently signed on to direct The Suicide Squad’s Joel Kinnaman in the dialogue free action film Silent Night, his first American movie since 2003’s Paycheck.
