Joker: Folie à Deux will be “really surprising” to audiences, promises cinematographer

November 1, 2023 by Ricky Church

We are now under a year out from the release of director Todd Phillips’ anticipated Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, with Joaquin Phoenix reprising his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck/Joker and introducing Lady Gaga’s Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn. With that in mind, cinematographer Lawrence Sher has revealed post-production is almost complete and the sequel will be “really surprising” to audiences.

Speaking with Definition Magazine, Sher said “Something I appreciate about Todd Phillips — who I’ve done seven movies with, including Joker — is that he’s always taking risks. We’ve got the new Joker coming out next year and we’re just finishing up post-production on it. This movie is a big swing and it’s going to be really surprising to people. I’m so excited for everyone to see it.”

Little is known about Joker: Folie à Deux other than it continuing the story of Arthur Fleck after his evolution into Joker in the previous movie. With Gaga playing Harley Quinn the film will play up the romance/abusive relationship the two share in the comics as well as reportedly being something of a musical with Gaga’s talents. We’ll have to wait for more information as post-production is completed and promotion begins in the coming months.

Joaquin Phoenix reprises his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, along with Zazie Beetz’s Sophie, while other new additions to the cast alongside Lady Gaga include Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), Harry Lawtey (Industry), Catherine Keener (The Adam Project), and Jacob Lofland (Mud) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Joker: Folie À Deux is slated to release on October 4th, 2024.
