Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw to produce The People Under the Stairs reboot

November 18, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Jordan Peele is tackling one of the most beloved cult classics, Wes Craven’s The People Under The Stairs.

Though Peele is not set to helm the project, it will be produced via Monkeypaw Productions. Doom Patrol and Night Sky writer Ezra Claytan Daniels recently signed on to write the screenplay, with the director hunt still ongoing.

The original film follows a young boy and two adult robbers who become trapped in a house belonging to a neighborhood’s crooked landlords. After breaking in to steal their collection of gold coins, the boy learns a dark secret about them and what also lurks in their house.

Craven’s The People Under The Stairs is an often overlooked entry, with the film tackling social issues and having a satirical punch. The film starred Brandon Adams, Everett McGill, Wendy Robie, and A. J. Langer and was released in 1991.
