Josh Gad to headline Roland Emmerich’s Moonfall

You read that right. With what is one of the most unlikely headlines you’ll see all day, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed erstwhile snowman and current ’80s reunion dreammaker Josh Gad will take the lead in Roland Emmerich’s latest big-budget disaster thriller Moonfall.

Financed by Lionsgate, who backed Emmerich with his 2019 WWII actioner Midway, Moonfall centres on a group of unlikely astronauts who’re sent into space when the moon is mysteriously knocked from its orbit, plunging the fate of humanity into balance. So far, so Armageddon.

Josh Gad is the first person to sign on for the mission, which was written by Emmerich, along with his 2012 collaborators, Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen.

Gad can be seen next in Artemis Fowl, which debuts on Disney+ on June 20th, 2020.
