Jumanji’s title change is down to Jack Black

September 20, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Following on from today’s release of two new trailers [which you can watch here], it has emerged Jack Black is responsible for the Jumanji sequel changing its title.

Originally going by the simple title Jumanji, the reboot of the classic family film starring Robin Williams is now known as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

It turns out that one of the film’s stars, Jack Black, is responsible for the switch up, as director Jake Kasdan revealed recently to USA Today. Apparently, on set, Black would sing Guns N’ Roses’ 1987 song ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ with Kasdan saying: “Jack said to me one day, ‘You know, we really should call this Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’”.

As they say, the rest is history.

A lot of people have a soft spot for the 90s adventure movie revolving around a creepy board game that unleashes horrors upon those that play it, and so anticipation is certainly there to discover just what this new film starring Dwayne Johnson will actually entail.

In the brand new adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji.  When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan.  What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you.  They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever…

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is set for release on December 22nd 2017 and sees Jake Kasdan (Sex Tape) directing a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson (The Fate of the Furious), Kevin Hart (Central Intelligence), Jack Black (Goosebumps), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Rhys Darby (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), Nick Jonas (Scream Queens), Alex Wolff (The Sitter), Madison Iseman (Still the King), Morgan Turner (Remember Me) and Ser’Darius Blain (Star Trek Into Darkness).
