Justice League surpasses Logan at the worldwide box office

December 15, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Justice League may have underwhelmed at the box office, but we do have one bit of good news for Warner Bros., as the DC team-up is not going to finish the year as the lowest-grossing live-action superhero movie.

Going into this weekend, Justice League has pushed its worldwide haul to $625 million, surpassing 20th Century Fox’s Wolverine swansong Logan, which earned $616.8 million earlier in the year. Of course, Logan cost less than a third of Justice League to produce, with a budget of $97 million against the DC blockbuster’s $300 million.

Early reports had claimed that Justice League would need to gross around $650 million to break even, while Man of Steel’s $668 million is the target should it not want to end up the lowest-grossing chapter of the DC Extended Universe. With Star Wars: The Last Jedi now gobbling up ticket sales, it will be interesting to see if it manages to limp to that figure.

In terms of the year’s other Marvel and DC offerings, Wonder Woman sites on $821.9 million, Thor: Ragnarok on $836 million, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on $863.6 million, and Spider-Man: Homecoming on $880.2 million.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League reunites Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
