Kevin Feige confirms Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel for Avengers 4

October 24, 2017 by Gary Collinson

In the build up to production on Avengers: Infinity War, there was a lot of rumour and speculation as to whether Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers would make her MCU debut in next year’s hotly-anticipated Marvel blockbuster ahead of 2019’s Captain Marvel movie.

As it turned out, Carol will be absent from Infinity War, with the character instead making her first appearance in her 1990s-set solo movie as she battles the Skrulls. However, Larson was spotted on the Atlanta set of Avengers 4, and now Kevin Feige has seemingly confirmed the character’s inclusion in the as-yet-untitled sequel during an interview with IndieWire.

“We’re really focusing on Captain Marvel and the work that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are doing,” said Feige. “It’s going to be a big part of heading towards this epic conclusion and epic finale of 22 movies over the course of 10 years. That is focus for the next six movies we have to finish and get out. The focus now is on delivering Captain Marvel and then bringing Captain Marvel’s story into the finale of everything we’ve started thus far.”

As stated on several occasions, Avengers 4 is set to mark the end of one story for the MCU, before launching into a new overarching tale in Phase Four – one which, given the increased emphasis on the cosmic side of the universe – is likely to see Carol Danvers front and center.

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 in the UK and May 4th 2018 in the US and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket, Kraglin), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Peter Dinklage, Terry Notary and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
