Kevin Feige says Marvel is “committing to doing” a Black Widow movie

May 6, 2016 by Gary Collinson

During an interview with Deadline to promote the release of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has been speaking about the future of the Cinematic Universe beyond Phase Three, and more specifically, if there are any plans to give supporting players such as Falcon, War Machine, Hawkeye and Black Widow their own solo movie. His response will likely prove interesting to fans of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff:

“We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow. We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.”

There have long been calls from fans for Black Widow to receive her own solo movie, and assuming the female-led Captain Marvel is a success for the studio, you’d have to imagine it could finally become a reality during Phase Four.

Would you like to see a Black Widow movie? What other supporting characters could headline their own films? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
