Kumail Nanjiani rumored to be DCU’s Booster Gold

July 13, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Has James Gunn found his Booster Gold? Reports have Kumail Nanjiani signed on for the role, but there is no official word yet.

According to Nexus Point News, the actor will star in the DC Studios/Max series. If he is confirmed, Nanjiani will play Michael John Carter.

Kumail Nanjiani will be familiar to comic book fans. He starred as Kingo in Marvel Studios’ Eternals. The comedic actor is also known for his work on Silicon Valley and the semi-autobiographical feature The Big Sick.

To add fuel to the fire, Nanjiani recently reposted a DC Studios post about 2025’s Superman. Check that out below…

It has been reported that DC Studios co-chairs Gunn and Peter Safran tapped Danny McBride, John Carcieri, and Jeff Fradley for the series. They’re the team behind the cult classic HBO Max Original series The Righteous Gemstones.

Jody Hill (Eastbound and Down) is currently on board as director/showrunner of the Booster Gold series.

Little is known about the project, but it was announced in Janurary 2023 when the DC Studios slate was revealed. Gunn described the series at the time as “the superhero story of imposter syndrome” and as a “loser from the future.” Booster Gold, aka Michael Jon Carter, was first introduced in DC Comics in Booster Gold #1 in 1986, created by writer and artist Dan Jurgens.

Stay tuned to Flickering Myth for confirmation on whether Kumail Nanjiani will land the Booster Gold role.
