Lars Eidinger cast as Brainiac in Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow

December 20, 2025 by Gary Collinson

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has found his big bad for the upcoming Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, with the filmmaker taking to social media to announce that German actor Lars Eidinger (Dying, Jay Kelly) is set to portray the supervillain Brainiac in what will mark the character’s big screen debut.

“In our worldwide search for Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow, Lars Eidinger rose to the top,” wrote Gunn. “Welcome to the DCU, Lars.”

Created by Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino and debuting in 1958’s Action Comics #242, Brainiac is a superintelligent alien android with a penchant for shrinking entire cities – most notably the Kryptonian capital of Kandor – in his quest to collect all knowledge in the universe.

While plot details for Man of Tomorrow are being kept under wraps, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to be reprising their roles as Superman and Lex Luthor, with Gunn previously teasing: “It is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. And it’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie.”

Man of Tomorrow will release on July 9th 2027.
