Latest Commando Comics commemorate Aussie and Kiwi troops this ANZAC Day

April 22, 2026 by Andrew Newton

DC Thompson’s latest Commando Comics to hit the shelves, celebrates ANZAC Day on the 25th April with four stories of the heroic adventures of brave Australian and New Zealand troops. Fans of Commando Comics can enjoy two brand-new adventures of Australian and New Zealand troops fighting through North Africa in World War II, along with a couple of classic stories from 40-50 years ago.

In Humpback Heroes, issue 5951 (Home of Heroes), Captain Tom Best and his men had fought against the Germans for a long time in the hot and dray desert of Tobruk. When they were pulled out for some much-needed rest, they thought they could enjoy the warmth without being shot at, but command has other plans for them. With thoughts of rest far from their minds, Tom and his men are sent on a mission deep behind enemy lines to destroy an Afrika Korps fuel dump. The worst thing is, they have to do it all in complete disguise on the back of camels.

This story has been written by Brent Towns, with art by Jaume Forns, and cover art by Simon Prichard.

In Company of Heroes, issue 5952 (Gold), Lieutenant Brian Lawson arrives at the barracks of the famous Hyderabad Fusiliers, with plans on getting a cushy desk job. For a while, it looks that will actually happen, until war breaks out with Japan. Lawson is soon assigned to the Company of Heroes, and the war would never be the same again.

This classic story was first published in 1971 as issue 610, and was written by Eric Hebden, with art by Gordon C Livingstone.

Issue 5953, Terror Train (For Action and Adventure) by Rossa McPhillips, takes readers to 1943 Tunisia where a German military supply train is making its way through the desert to German lines. Equipped with numerous anti-aircraft guns, this behemoth of a train is a threat to the Allied forces.

It’s essential that this train service is cancelled, and to ensure that happens, Captain Mike Lambert and his New Zealand Long Range Desert Group must fight carriage-to-carriage to eliminate the Germans and destroy this supply line once and for all.

Finally, issue 5954 (Silver) Spring the Trap, follows Commando officer Richard Adam as he leads his expert team into the Italian mountains to blow up a strategically important dam. He expected this mission to be much like any other, but on this occasion, he was wrong.

This was first published in 1985 as No. 1864 and was written by McDevitt. Cover art is by Jeff Bevan with internal art by CT Rigby.

These four new adventures arrive in newsagents and on the Commando Comics webpage from 23rd April.
