Live-action Tintin movie in development

October 17, 2020 by Gary Collinson

It’s been close to a decade since the release of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and while we still continue to wait on word of a second instalment in the planned animated trilogy from Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, it is now being reported that filmmaker Patrice Leconte (The Man on the Train) is developing a live-action take on Herge’s roving reporter.

According to French outlet Figaro (via The Playlist), Leconte plans to adapt the 1963 Tintin album The Castafiore Emerald, which takes place entirely within Captain Haddock’s family estate of Marlinspike Hall and reolves around the theft of an emerald owned by the visiting opera singer Bianca Castafiore.

The report goes on to state that Leconte is already well into development on the project and has already identified who he wants to play both Captain Haddock and Bianca Castafiore, although he’s yet to find his Tintin.

There are also apparently some rights issues to sort out between Paramount France and Tintin’s rights holders, although this is expected to be finalised by the time that Leconte completes his next film Maigret and the Dead Girl, which is slated to shoot early in 2021.

Are you excited about the prospect of a live-action Tintin movie? Would you rather see another instalment in Spielberg and Jackson’s animated series? Let us know on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
