UPDATE: Margot Robbie developing Tank Girl movie

September 11, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Alan Martin, co-creator of Tank Girl, has taken to Twitter to reveal that Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment has optioned the big screen rights to the classic British comic book character, and that while development on a movie adaptation is now well underway, it seems that neither he nor Jamie Hewlett are involved with the project in any capacity.

“Just heard that Margot Robbie’s company have optioned rights from MGM to make a new Tank Girl movie – now several months into development,” writes Martin, who created the character with Hewlett back in 1988. “We haven’t been contacted by any of the parties involved with the project, so not sure if there will be any input from the original creators.”

Tank Girl follows the title character, Rebecca Buck, who drives a tank and embarks on a series of adventures – and misadventures – in a post-apocalyptic, punk-inspired world. The comic was previously adapted for the big screen by director Rachel Talalay back in 1995, with Lori Petty starring in the title role.

UPDATE: It has now been confirmed that Robbie will reunite with Dreamland director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte on the film, although at present she is only attached as producer and her on screen involvement in the title role is said to be dependent on the script.

Are you excited about the prospect of a new Tank Girl movie? Is Margot Robbie a good fit for the role? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @FlickeringMyth…
