Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will get her own spinoff movie

May 16, 2016 by James Garcia

We’re still about three months away from the release of Suicide Squad, but Warner Bros. apparently has a lot of confidence in the property and its female star, and are already prepping a spinoff film for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.

The news comes from THR, who claim that the spinoff won’t just feature the iconic and beloved anti-heroine, but rather “would focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains.”

Their sources have thrown around names like Batgirl and Birds of Prey – meaning this could even shape up to be a Birds of Prey/Gotham Sirens movie featuring the likes of Batgirl (who, remember, has already been cast; Jena Malone was cut from the theatrical version of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but is expected to debut in the film’s upcoming “Ultimate Cut” home release), Huntress and Black Canary, versus Harley, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. That’s just speculation, of course, as THR says that it’s “not clear” at what capacity anyone but Harley Quinn will factor into the film.

Margot Robbie won’t only star in the film, but is signed on to produce as well. Sources say that Robbie was “the impetus for the project, adding that when she got the part for the movie, she dove deep into the comics to learn as much as possible on the character. In the process, she fell for DC’s female characters. She brought on the writer to help develop the project and brought it to Warners, which snapped it up.”

We’ll have more news on this Harley Quinn solo movie as it develops!
