Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to end with season 7

July 18, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Ahead of its panel at the San Diego Comic-Con tomorrow, ABC has announced that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to come to an end next year with its previously-announced seventh season.

“It will be bittersweet saying goodbye to Marvel Television’s flagship series,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Our success is a true testament to the extraordinary fans and we remain forever indebted to them for their endless support. We want to end on a very high note and complete the incredible saga after seven amazing seasons and 136 hours of quality television.”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen as a spinoff from The Avengers following the further exploits of Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson.

Premiering in 2013, the show was initially poorly received by fans and critics, although it has since went on to develop a loyal following. Nevertheless, ratings have been declining for several years now, and the show was reportedly facing cancellation after its fifth season, with reports suggesting that Disney blocked ABC from doing so.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is currently airing its sixth season on ABC, with a cast that includes Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet, Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Simmons, Jeff Ward and Natalie Cordova-Buckley.
