Marvel’s Jeph Loeb downplays The Punisher Netflix series rumour

February 24, 2016 by Gary Collinson

The Punisher is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut next month as Jon Bernthal takes on the role of Frank Castle for the second season of Daredevil, and rumours have already circulated that Netflix is planning a spinoff series centred on the gun-toting vigilante.

Well, according to Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb, the rumours are just that, with Loeb telling Digital Spy that: “I think that’s something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that’s actually happening. It’s certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them.”

Of course, Loeb could simply be trying to throw fans off the scent if Marvel want to gauge how fans react to Bernthal’s Punisher before making an official announcement.

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios. Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.

The second season of Daredevil will hit Netflix on March 18th and features a cast that includes Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Matt Gerald (Melvin Potter), Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/The Punisher), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Elodie Yung (Elektra), Scott Glen (Stick) and Stephen Rider (Blake Tower).
