Marvel’s Kevin Feige discusses Disney streaming shows and “maintaining the theatrical experience”

November 5, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in September it was reported that Marvel Studios is set to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe onto the small screen, producing a number of big budget limited TV series for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

Now, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Feige has confirmed the reports, and shared a few comments on Marvel’s ambitions for the shows.

“Well, it’s not a hundred percent complete yet, so there’s only so much I’m allowed to say, or so much they even tell me,” said Feige. “I think [the streaming service] is something that we’re going to be adding content to, which is exciting. We are going to tell stories for the streaming service that we wouldn’t be able to tell in a theatrical experience — a longer-form narrative, that’s what comics are, it’s about as longform a narrative as exists. But also maintaining that theatrical experience, which is our bread and butter, and the lines around the block, if you’re lucky.”

So far, it’s been said that plans are afoot for solo shows based around Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, and a team-up with Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier. But – much like Marvel’s Phase Four slate – it seems we’ve got a wait on our hands until we get any official announcements.
