Marvel’s Kevin Feige is “excited to continue working” with Scarlett Johansson post-Black Widow

July 5, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Despite the character’s fate in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios kicks off a brand new phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by revisiting one of the OG Avengers this coming week with the long-delayed release of the Black Widow solo movie.

Black Widow is being billed as a farewell to the fan-favourite character, although neither Marvel nor Scarlett Johansson have closed the door on a Natasha Romanoff return somewhere down the line, and indeed in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight Marvel Studios supremo Kevin Feige has expressed his interest in continuing to work with the star.

“Marvel is always about new beginnings and Scarlett Johansson is such an amazing partner for us,” said Feige. “She was a producer on this film. She was the one that brought us our amazing director, Cate Shortland, and I am excited to continue working with her in any way possible if we’re so lucky.”

At this point, it’s unclear what the future may or may not hold for Johansson’s Natasha, although an appearance in Marvel’s What If…? animated series seems likely, and there are any number of ways that Marvel could work in more appearances without resurrecting the character post-Endgame. For the time being however, fans can enjoy one more adventure when Black Widow arrives in cinemas on Wednesday ahead of its Disney+ Premier Access release on Friday.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) and sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff alongside William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) as Yelena Belova, O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Mason, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina Vostokoff/Iron Maiden and Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) as Dreykov.
