Marvel’s What If…? logo hints at a possible Marvel Zombies adaptation

July 28, 2019 by Gary Collinson

During last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con Presentation, Marvel Studios confirmed the reports that it is creating an animated Disney+ series entitled Marvel’s What If…?, which – inspired by the comic book series of the same name – will explore a variety of pivotal moments from the MCU, turning them on their head and leading viewers into uncharted territory.

It has already been reported that episodes will explore what might have happened had Peggy Carter had become Captain America instead of Steve Rogers, and what if Loki had found the hammer of Thor. And, based upon the logo for the new series, it seems we may also potentially get an adaptation of the fan favourite Marvel Zombies comic, with @MarvelStuff spotting a Zombie Captain America tucked away next to the first ‘W’.

Marvel Zombies was a five-issue limited series written by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, which reimagined the Marvel Universe as a world where the superhero population had been infected with a virus, turning them into flesh-eating zombies. It was followed by a number of sequels and spinoffs, while a new reboot – Marvel Zombies: Respawn – was recently announced for release in October.

Marvel’s What If…? is set to launch in 2021, and sees Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) voicing The Watcher alongside a who’s who of MCU stars including Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Josh Brolinas Thanos, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Taika Waititi as Korg, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, and Michael Rooker as Yondu.
