Masters of the Universe coming to 4K Ultra HD with extended Preview Cut

June 23, 2026 by Gary Collinson

Fresh from our latest trip to Eternia with the Travis Knight-directed reboot, Arrow Video has announced that it is bringing Cannon Films’ original 1987 live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe starring Dolph Lundgren to 4K Ultra HD via its new subsidiary boutique label Toy Robot Video, complete with a “newly unearthed” extended Preview Cut featuring never-before-seen footage, including new and extended scenes and alternate takes.

Planet Eternia and the castle of Grayskull are under threat from the evil Skeletor (Frank Langella, Dracula) who wants to take over the planet. A group of freedom fighters led by the heroic He-Man (Dolph Lundgren, Rocky IV) are accidently transported to Earth by the mysterious Cosmic Key, which holds the power to turn Skeletor all-powerful. Once on Earth, He-Man joins alliances with two teenagers as they attempt to find the key.

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new home entertainment video label across the US, Canada and the UK,” said Toy Robot Video’s Mike Hewitt. “With a resurgent interest in Physical Media, especially amongst younger film fans, Toy Robot Video is intended to be a fun and inclusive label, designed to complement our core Arrow Video brand, spreading the joy of physical media ownership outside of the boundaries of cult fans and cineastes.

“Toy Robot Video will deliver an expansive variety of content, incorporating a range of mainstream titles and genres – with even more comedy and even animation,” Hewitt continued. “We couldn’t be more pleased with our launch titles, including a 2-disc 4K UHD release of 1987’s Masters of the Universe in the US and Canada, and we are incredibly excited about our forthcoming slate for the remainder of 2026 and beyond.”
