Matt Ryan will be “disappointed” if he doesn’t get to audition for J.J. Abrams’ Justice League Dark

May 17, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Although NBC’s Constantine only lasted a single season, Matt Ryan firmly established himself as a fan favourite in the title role as John Constantine – so much so that he’s since returned to the role for the Arrowverse, as well as voicing the character in the animated web series Constantine: City of Demons and the feature films Justice League Dark and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

As we learned back in April, John Constantine will soon be making his way to HBO Max, with J.J. Abrams and has Bad Robot production company developing a Justice League Dark live-action series for the WarnerMedia streaming service. And, while it’s highly unlikely that this will have any connection to the Arrowverse or the earlier Constantine series, Ryan has revealed to Comic Book that he’ll be “disappointed” if he at least doesn’t get the opportunity to audition.

“I’m a theater actor, you know? That’s where I spent most of my life,” said Ryan. “I always say to them, ‘Just get me in the room.’ And then if they don’t want me for the role that’s their choice. But I would be very disappointed if a project like that went ahead without even sitting down and seeing what I could do with the material.”
