Melissa Barrera was set to have three movie arc in Scream, reveals Skeet Ulrich

February 24, 2024 by EJ Moreno

We know the new era of Scream films was incomplete when its leads left, but now we’re seeing the scoop of that loss.

For those who don’t remember, Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream VII, and Jenna Ortega later dropped out due to scheduling. That obviously put a massive hole in the plans in the story for both characters, Sam & Tara Carpenter, which Scream actor Skeet Ulrich reveals had a complete arc.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Ulrich reveals some original concepts for Sam Carpenter in the films, stating: “That’s sort of the idea that was pitched to me a couple years ago. That it was a three-movie arc, with that in mind.”

“Now, I never saw any of the drafts of seven or anything that… And I don’t know; I mean, it’s possible that it didn’t include any of that as well. But yeah, that was my hope is that if it was going to mean anything, that it directly impacted the plot.”

With Radio Silence already exiting the project and filmmaker Christopher Landon, everything involving Scream VI seems to be up in the air now. The seventh installment is undergoing a creative retooling, and Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey are reportedly being eyed for a return to the franchise.
