Michael Bay-produced pandemic thriller Songbird to shoot in Los Angeles during lockdown

May 20, 2020 by EJ Moreno

While many film and television productions around the globe are feeling the effects of social distancing, one movie is taking advantage of the situation. Deadline reports that the pandemic-themed thriller Songbird will begin production in just five weeks, using the usually less-busy time for the film’s atmosphere.

The film will see Into the Dark’s Adam Mason serve as the director, and Michael Bay will serve as one of the film’s producers.

“It takes place two years in the future. The pandemic has not gone away. Lockdowns have been rolled back and then reinstated, and it becomes even more serious as the virus continues to mutate,” Deadline reports as they detail the plot.

The article also refers to Songbird as a “taut thriller” and compares it to found-footage horror films Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield, which suggests that an element like that could be at play here.

They are looking to shoot in Los Angeles during the current lockdown, which could seemingly go against all the existing protocols. Deadline does note that those social distancing guidelines will be followed by the production, with actors never sharing the same space. Scenes will be shot after the crew has prepped the shots, and there won’t be any scenes where actors engage face to face. Deadline compares the techniques to the ones used in the recent thriller film Searching.

Reports say that these plans have been given the green light.
