After Mike Flanagan’s series adaptation of Stephen King’s classic debut novel Carrie premiered earlier this month, Prime Video has officially renewed the horror series for a second season. Spoilers follow for the season one finale…

Carrie starred Summer H. Howell as the titular Carrie White, a sheltered young girl who was kept inside and homeschooled her whole life by her controlling and conspiracy theorist-driven parents. Her life takes a turn when her father suddenly died after an accident and she is sent to high school, confronting the realities of everyday teenagers and becoming the target of social media bullying which culminates in the bloody prom massacre that destroys both her school and most of her town.
Flanagan’s TV series diverged from King’s novel and other adaptations by having Carrie survive her murderous rampage. The season ended with Carrie being taken by her friend Emaline, another young girl with the ability to astral project into the mind of anyone no matter the distance between them, to safe place from a group of other telekinetics with the Shine who are apparently searching for Carrie. The group’s leader was played by Kate Siegel as Adelaide, who had quite a few girls with varying abilities in her group. Flanagan has previously teased a three-season arc for his version of Carrie.

Carrie also starred Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Tohah as Tine Blake, Arthur Conti as Billy, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, Tim Bagley as Mr. Morton, Rahul Kohli as Mr. Piest and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.
Of the season one cast, the only surviving characters are Sue, Tina and Mr. Morton, the first two surviving the prom massacre and the latter not being present after he resigned from the school. It is unknown if any of them will return for the second season in the aftermath of the school and Chamberlain’s destruction, but we can assume both Siegel and Emaline’s Thalia Dudek will return alongside Howell.
Flanagan stated “For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.”

“I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White,” King said. “Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.”
“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether — including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”
