Miles Teller boxing drama Bleed For This acquires distributions deals at Cannes

May 20, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

In more news coming out of Cannes, the Miles Teller boxing drama Bleed For This has been picked up by both Sony Pictures Classics and Open Road Films for distribution deals for worldwide releases.

Open Road has paid $4 million for the North American rights, while Sony is set to distribute the film across various other territories, including Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Scandinavia, Australia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Greece and South Africa. (No word on a UK deal just yet).

The film, directed by Ben Younger (Boiler Room), had 12 minutes of footage screened for distributors at the festival, and sparked a bidding war which saw Open Road and Sony coming out on top. The film itself sees Teller play real-life boxed Vinny Pazienza, who became boxing star until a terrible car accident left him facing a life without never being able to walk again. Undeterred, and with the help of trainer Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart, The Dark Knight), Pazienza made a return to the ring only a year-or-so later.
