Mindy Kaling is producing and developing two new shows for NBC from the Mindy Project crew

October 20, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Mindy Kaling is spinning a couple of new plates for NBC, producing two new comedies from the Mindy Project team.

Starting in 2012, The Mindy Project has accrued five seasons with its sixth and final outing debuting back in September. Kaling, however, isn’t standing still, and Variety has news of two new shows that she is working on for NBC.

The first series is currently without a title and hails from Lang Fisher, a co-executive producer, writer, and director on The Mindy Project. Variety’s summary for show reads:

“The series would follow the dedicated diplomats of a small U.S. embassy in the Caribbean who are suddenly thrown into chaos when an unqualified, ignorant and hard-living oil man is appointed as their new ambassador.”

Fisher will be writing the show and Kaling will serve as executive producer along with Mindy Project EP Howard Klein.

The second series is called Venice Beach Venture, and has been created by Matt Warburton who was the co-showrunner and executive producer for The Mindy Project.

Variety’s description of the show is as follows:

“…described as a workplace romantic comedy set amidst the booming Southern California tech scene, where a brilliant young female engineer faces an exasperating workplace and an arrogant billionaire boss at an elite venture capital firm.”

Warburton will write the show and Klein will again executive produce the series with Kaling.
