Mortal Kombat movie reboot finally moving forward, will shoot this year

May 16, 2019 by Gary Collinson

After years in development, it looks like Warner Bros.’ Mortal Kombat movie reboot is finally set to move forward, with producer James Wan (Aquaman) revealing to EW that filming is slated to begin in Australia later this year.

“I’m really happy and excited to be bringing another show back to Australia with Mortal Kombat, especially after having such a great experience filming Aquaman,” said Wan. “Now we get to experience South Australia with its scenic locations and a wealth of artistic talent to work with. It will be perfectly suited for this fantasy-action project.”

The new Mortal Kombat movie is to be directed by Simon McQuoid, who is known for his work in commercials and has been attached to the project since late 2016. Wan’s involvement meanwhile can be traced back to August 2015.

The hugely-successful Mortal Kombat video game series launched in 1992, and spawned the feature films Mortal Kombat (1995) and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997), along with an animated TV series, live-action TV series and an acclaimed webseries.
