Near Dark reportedly set for TV series adaptation

May 19, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Kathryn Bigelow’s cult classic Near Dark could be finding new life through a TV series as A24 is said in talks to adapt the film to a new series, with the filmmaker reportedly involved with the production. The report comes from The InSneider.

Near Dark is a 1987 American neo-Western horror film directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It stars Adrian Pasdar, Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, and Jenette Goldstein. The latter three had previously appeared together in Aliens.

The story follows Caleb Colton (Pasdar), a young man living in a small Oklahoma town, who falls for a mysterious drifter named Mae. After she bites him, Caleb is reluctantly pulled into her nomadic vampire “family,” a ragtag group of undead outlaws who roam the American Southwest in a beat-up RV, preying on humans and staying just ahead of the law and sunrise.

Near Dark received positive reviews at its release, but it didn’t perform well at the box office. Years later, it would gain cult film status. Film companies Rogue Pictures and Platinum Dunes planned a remake of the at one point, but plans fell apart. Whether this TV adaptation will have more success remains to be seen, but stay tuned to Flickering Myth for any updates…
