Neill Blomkamp’s Alien movie officially moving ahead at Fox

February 19, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Last month, District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp posted a selection of concept artwork he’d commissioned for a potential Alien movie, which he’d started thinking about whilst working with Sigourney Weaver on his latest film Chappie.

Blomkamp was working on the project unofficially, but stated last week that 20th Century Fox would jump at the chance to make it if he committed to the project, and now it seems the studio has, as he has now announced it as his next movie…

Um… So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien

According to Variety, the new film will take place years after Prometheus 2 (which goes without saying, really), and Ridley Scott will serve as executive producer. At this point it’s unclear whether Sigourney Weaver (Ripley) and Michael Biehn (Hicks) will be involved (both were depicted in the original concept art), although Weaver seemed keen when she spoke about the project over the weekend.

Are you looking forward to seeing Neill Blomkamp tackling an Alien movie? Let us know your thoughts…
