Netflix unveils cast and images for Scrooge: A Christmas Carol animated musical

July 21, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Netflix is bringing Charles Dickens’ classic festive tale A Christmas Carol to life once more this December with a new animated musical adaptation from Timeless Films and director Stephen Donnelly (Monster High: Welcome to Monster High).

As we enter the second half of the year, the streamer has now shared two new images from Scrooge: A Christmas Carol, as well as announcing a star-studded voice cast for the film led by Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast) as the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge.

Joining Evans in the voice cast will be Olivia Colman as Past, Jessie Buckley as Isabel Fezziwig, Johnny Flynn as Bob Cratchit, Fra Fee as Harry Huffam, Giles Terera as Tom Jenkins, Trevor Dion Nicholas as Present, James Cosmo as Mr Fezziwig, and Jonathan Pryce as Jacob Marley. Meanwhile, the film will also include reimagined songs from the late Oscar and Grammy Award-winner Leslie Bricusse (Doctor Dolittle, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Superman, Home Alone).

“It’s been a fascinating challenge to adapt such a beloved and often-told story,” said director Stephen Donnelly. “I think this version will give those who know A Christmas Carol all the things they expect, but not as they’ve experienced them before. There are more than enough psychedelic, time-travelling and musical surprises to keep those familiar with the story on the edge of their seats, while the authentic essence of Dickens has been retained for those coming completely fresh to the classic tale. I can’t wait to share this new version of A Christmas Carol with the world and sincerely hope audiences embrace it this year and for many to come.”

Charles Dickens’ ageless legend is reborn in this supernatural, time-travelling, musical adaptation of the definitive Christmas story. With his very soul on the line, Scrooge has but one Christmas Eve left to face his past and build a better future.

Scrooge: A Christmas Carol is set for release on Netflix this December.
