New gameplay footage revealed from Blair Witch

July 26, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Thanks to Game Informer’s Gameplay Today series, we now have our official first look at the upcoming horror title, Blair Witch. You can watch the full 10 minutes of gameplay footage here…

Announced during the Xbox E3 press conference, Blair Witch is currently in development at Bloober Team, the developers responsible for Observer and the Layers of Fear series.

The game is set in 1996, where you play as Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past who is investigating the disappearance of a young boy in the Black Hills Forest. Now, this new footage shows Ellis and his faithful companion Bullet exploring the forest, whilst instructing Bullet to track scents, sniff out and retrieve objects, alert you to nearby monsters, and yes, you can pet the dog. There is also a relationship mechanic with Bullet which can be improved by communicating with Bullet and listening to his instructions – resulting in building a trusting partnership.

The player is also equipped with a walkie-talkie to cooperate with the outside world and a camcorder that can be used to play tapes found within the forest itself. Additionally, the camcorder can also be used to solve puzzles by rewinding the footage to put objects back to their original state. Finally, the flashlight (which appears to go on and off periodically) can be used to fend off the monsters and creatures scattered around the forest.

It has been revealed previously that the game is set to feature combat mechanics – which is new for Bloober Team. However, these mechanics were not shown off in the gameplay footage above.

Blair Witch is set to launch on 30th August for PC via Steam and Xbox One. What are your thoughts on the new gameplay footage? Will you be picking the game up on release? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @FMyth_Gaming…
