Clues had been dropped last year about Nicolas Cage’s rumoured involvement in True Detective season 5, but now the man himself appears to have confirmed that he will appear in the next iteration of the HBO anthology series.
The Academy Award winning Leaving Las Vegas actor made the announcement at New York Comic Con, telling the audience “I think I’m probably gonna do another season of television. I think I might do a season of True Detective,” adding for his agent who was somewhere in the crowd “That’s okay that I’m the first to announce that, right?”

Following on the ice-cold heels of the underrated True Detective: Night Country, the fifth season of HBO’s crime series will once again be show-run by Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid), who wrote and directed all of the episodes from the previous season. Not a lot is known about True Detective season 5 aside from the fact that the action will shift from Alaska to Jamaica Bay in New York, and that Cage would potentially be playing a character called Henry Logan.
