Nightwing director shoots down reports that Zac Efron has been cast as Dick Grayson

May 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last year, The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay stated that Warner Bros. and DC Films would be “casting a wide net” to fill the role of Dick Grayson in the planned live-action Nightwing movie, with McKay subsequently stating in February that work on the script was ongoing, and we shouldn’t expect to hear casting news “any time soon”.

Well, this past weekend, a rumour started circulating via voice actor Jon Bailey suggesting that the search had come to an end and that Zac Efron would be taking on the role of Dick Grayson in the DCEU solo movie.

As it turns out, the rumours aren’t true, at least according to McKay himself…

It should be noted that Efron has been linked to the part of the former Boy Wonder previously, although so has many young actors, including the likes of Steven Yeun, Finn Wittrock, Nick Jonas and Dacre Montgomery.

McKay is currently working on a live-action Dungeons & Dragons movie, which he is expected to shoot before Nightwing. He has however reaffirmed his commitment to the DCEU movie, although Warner Bros. is yet to make any kind of official announcement about where it might fit into their future DC plans and it has been absent from the studio’s last couple of DC movie slate announcements.

What do you make of Zac Efron as a possible choice for Nightwing? Who else could you see in the role? Let us know your thoughts in the comments…
