Overlord director teams with Sylvester Stallone for dark superhero thriller Samaritan

September 24, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Overlord helmer Julius Avery has signed on to direct Sylvester Stallone in Samaritan, a superhero thriller from MGM and Stallone’s Balboa Productions company.

“Sly is a hero of mine, I’m incredibly thrilled to be working with such an iconic actor on this very special project with Balboa Productions and MGM,” said Avery, who will be directing from a script by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room).

Described as “a dark, fresh take on the superhero genre”, Samaritan follows a young boy who sets out to discover whether a missing superhero may still be alive some twenty years after they disappeared in battle.

As well, as starring, Stallone – who can currently be seen in cinemas in Rambo: Last Blood – will serve as a producer on Samaritan, which is set to begin shooting early in the New Year.
