Owen Wilson and Ed Helms to star in Bastards

July 16, 2015 by William Fanelli

Owen Wilson has reportedly signed on to play Ed Helms’ brother in an upcoming roadtrip comedy entitled Bastards. According to THR, the film will be based on a script by Justin Malen (who’s credited for writing the newly announced Bad Teacher 2) and will serve as the directorial debut for The Hangover cinematographer Larry Sher.

Bastards follows two brothers (Wilson and Helms) who, after learning of their mother’s reputation for shacking up with famous men back in the 1970s Studio 54 scene, hit the road to track down their birth father.

Wilson, who recently co-starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice and is set to head the upcoming thriller No Escape (hitting theaters in late August), appears to be setting his sights back on comedy with Bastards. He is set to appear in the Jared Hess ensemble comedy Masterminds, starring Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis, Leslie Jones and Ken Marino (hitting theaters this October) and Ben Stiller’s 2016 Zoolander 2 sequel.

Bastards puts another notch on Helms’ roadtrip comedy belt as the star of The Hangover is set to embody the grownup Rusty Griswold in the upcoming installment of the National Lampoon’s Vacation series. Vacation, written and directed by John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein and co-starring Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann and Chris Hemsworth, hits theaters July 29.
