Patty Jenkins reportedly walked away from Wonder Woman 3 after Warner Bros. clash

December 9, 2022 by EJ Moreno

The drama between Patty Jenkins and Warner Bros. is heating up.

According to TheWrap, the original story of Warner and DC cancelling Wonder Woman 3 isn’t entirely the truth, as sources tell the publication, “Patty Jenkins walked off the project after rejecting studio notes on her treatment.”

In one of the more wild parts of the story, Patty Jenkins reportedly emailed Warner execs the definition of a character arc following the rejection of the Wonder Woman 3 script treatment. Per TheWrap, the exchange began when Warner Bros. Film Group Co-Chairpersons and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy felt the script treatment didn’t fit the new vision for the character.

The duo reportedly reached out to Jenkins, saying that “they didn’t get the treatment” and didn’t think it was the right direction. They even asked Jenkins if she would consider pitching something else for the IP in another direction.

One insider tells The Wrap that Jenkins flat-out refused and let De Luca and Abdy “know that they were wrong, that they didn’t understand her, didn’t understand the character, didn’t understand character arcs and didn’t understand what Jenkins was trying to do.”

In that email, insiders say that Jenkins hilariously ended the email with a link to the Wikipedia definition of “character arc.” From there, Warner and DC let Patty Jenkins know the door is always open, but Jenkins stayed firm in her vision and decided to walk away from the entire project.

Gal Gadot is still attached to the role of the Amazon Princess at the time of writing, and the new vision of DC Studios (headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran) still reportedly wants a third Wonder Woman movie. However, it seems it will not be with Jenkins at the helm.
