Paul Greengrass and Brian Helgeland teaming up for Ness

April 2, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Legendary lawman Elliot Ness is set for a return to the big screen, with Deadline reporting that Paramount Pictures has set Paul Greengrass (Jason Bourne) to direct Ness, an adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Marc Andreyko’s graphic novel Torso.

The project has been scripted by Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential), who previously teamed with Greengrass for The Bourne Supremacy, and follows Ness years after he and his team of Prohibition agents The Untouchables brought down mobster Al Capone. The graphic novel details Ness’ investigation into the serial killer dubbed the ‘Torso Murderer’, and his efforts to bring him to justice.

There have been several previous attempts to bring Torso to the big screen, with directors David Fincher and David Lowery both attached at different points. This latest project is being eyed as a possible franchise, and is slated to begin production in the fall.
