Paul Walter Hauser to play Captain Ed in The Naked Gun reboot

May 2, 2024 by EJ Moreno

The Naked Gun remake has found its Captain Ed as Deadline reports Paul Walter Hauser signed onto the production, continuing his hot streak of roles recently.

The actor, who just became attached to play Chris Farley in a new biopic, will take over the role of Captain Ed Hocken from George Kennedy, who portrayed the character in the Naked Gun films after Alan North filled the role in Police Squad!, the TV precursor to the film series.

Produced by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, The Lonely Island‘s Akiva Schaffer will direct from a script by his Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.

Hauser will join Liam Neeson, who is taking over the iconic role of Frank Drebin, as well as Pamela Anderson. There have also been rumors that pro wrestler Cody Rhodes might join The Naked Gun in an extended cameo.

For those unfamiliar with this work, Hauser’s credits include I, Tonya, BlacKkKlansman and Richard Jewell. He was recently seen in the second season of The Afterparty and is also coming off the Emmy, Critics Choice, and Golden Globe wins for Apple’s crime drama Black Bird.

The Naked Gun is slated for release in theaters on July 18th, 2025.
