Prime Video’s adaptation of the popular fantasy series Fourth Wing has filled its main roles with Esther McGregor (We Were Liars) and Emilio Sakraya (Those About To Die) leading the series.
McGregor will play Violet Sorrengail and Sakraya as Xaden Riorson, an initiate and teacher at the Basgiath War College who strike up a steamy romance in an enemies-turned-lovers story. Fourth Wing sees Violet forced by her mother, a leading general of their kingdom of Navarre, to join Basgiath despite her physical limitations which puts her at more risk than other students.
Basgiath is a ruthless and unforgiving school where the only real rule is to graduate or die as they bond and form telepathic links with dragons to become Dragon Riders. As Violet continues school, using her cunning to outwit other students and trying not to succumb to her passion for Xaden, she begins uncovering Navarre’s hidden history that could shatter their safety.
The books were written by Rebecca Yarros, who has written three installments with an anthology titled Threshing Day recently published and a fourth novel on the way. The series is being produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Kilter Films and Premeditated Productions. Fourth Wing is being showrun and executive produced by Meredith Averill (Locke & Key) and Joy will direct the premiere episode.
McGregor recently starred in Prime’s YA adaptation We Were Liars and is currently filming the video game adaptation Life Is Strange for the streamer. Sakraya recently completed filming on the third season of Netflix’s One Piece where he has a recurring role as Koza.
