R.I.P. Powers Boothe (1948 – 2017)

May 15, 2017 by Jordan Jones

We have lost yet another acting legend today, as it has been announced that Powers Boothe has passed away at the age of 68. The actor is said to have died in his sleep due to natural causes. Beau Bridges was the first to share the news on Twitter:

It's with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.

— Beau Bridges (@MrBeauBridges) May 14, 2017

Like many enduring actors, Powers Boothe got his start on the stage, performing on and off-Broadway, particularly in Shakespearean productions. On the screen,he was known for playing delightfully villainous roles including Senator Roark in Sin City, and most recently Gideon Malick on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Most notably, the actor received an Emmy for his 1980 portrayal of cult leader Jim Jones in the movie Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones.

However, some would say it was the Western genre that Boothe shined the most. With his iconic mustache, and grizzled Texan accent, Powers Boothe quickly became synonymous with the Western genre, due to his iconic performances in Tombstone, and HBO’s Deadwood.
