Reacher spin-off focusing on Maria Sten’s Neagley ordered to series

October 2, 2024 by Ricky Church

Amazon MGM is preparing to give Reacher an expansion as it has ordered an untitled spin-off that will focus on Maria Sten’s character Frances Neagley, a private investigator who has teamed up with Jack Reacher in the series.

Reacher follows the exploits of former US Army MP Jack Reacher, played by Alan Ritchson, who travels from town to town righting various wrongs and investigating local or national conspiracies. Sten’s Frances Neagley served with Reacher when they were in the army and has since become a corporate security investigator, working with Reacher when he calls for help. Sten has appeared in both of Reacher‘s seasons and will be in the upcoming third season as well as her spin-off.

The synopsis for the spin-off reads: “When Frances Neagley learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice. Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.”

“I’m beyond thrilled to further explore the world of Neagley and her somewhat mysterious background,” Sten said in a statement. “She’s such a wonderful character to play and I’m very excited for everyone to get to know her a little better.”

The spin-off was created by Reacher‘s Nick Santora and Prison Break‘s Nicholas Wootton. They will executive produce the new series with Jack Reacher author Lee Child alongside Don Granger, Lisa Kussner and Skydance TV’s David Ellison, Goldberg and Matt Thunell.

“Lee Child created an immensely rich character with Neagley, and Maria Sten brought her to life in such a vivid, authentic way in Reacher,” said Santora and Wootton. “Amazon, Skydance Television and CBS Studios have been tremendous partners from the start, and we are excited to explore Neagley’s story further and dive into what makes her so unique.”

“As Reacher continues to resonate with our global customers in a profound way, expanding on the storytelling and characters with a spinoff was an easy decision,” Amazon MGM executive Vernon Sanders said. “With Nick and Nicholas as well as our partners Skydance and CBS Studios, we’re confident this new chapter, starring the amazing Maria Sten, will not only honor the Reacher legacy but also bring fresh energy and excitement to new and longtime fans alike.”

“We are thrilled to be expanding the world of Reacher with Amazon and CBS Studios to explore the fan favorite character of Neagley with the extraordinary Maria Sten,” said Skydance chief creative officer Dana Goldberg. “Nick Santora did an incredible job adapting Lee Child’s Reacher novels for television. With Nick and Nicholas Wootton at the helm, audiences are in for another captivating adventure in the Reacher universe.”

Reacher is currently filming its third season for a 2025 premiere. It is unknown when the Neagley-focused spin-off will begin production or premiere on Amazon Prime.
