Richard Donner confirms he plans to direct Lethal Weapon 5

January 3, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Fore a moment back in 2017, it appeared that the long-rumoured Lethal Weapon 5 was about to become a reality, with stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover both on board to join director Richard Donner for Lethal Finale.

Things soon fell silent however with progress seemingly stalling, only for Gibson to reveal last month that a fifth movie is “absolutely” happening. And now we have also confirmation from Donner, director of the first four movies, that he’ll be back in the director’s chair for Riggs and Murtaugh’s final outing.

“This is the final one,” said Donner in an interview with The Daily Telegraph (via NME). “It’s both my privilege and duty to put it to bed. It’s exciting, actually… Hahaha! It’s the last one, I’ll promise you that.”

The first Lethal Weapon was released back in 1987, while Donner, Gibson and Glover last teamed for the fourth instalment back in 1998. Donner meanwhile hasn’t been behind the camera since 2006’s Bruce Willis action thriller 16 Blocks.
