Ridley Scott reveals Blade Runner TV show in the works alongside Alien series

November 22, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Ridley Scott releases soundbites at a rate as impressive as his cinematic turnover, with some of his recent greatest hits being his claim that superhero movies are “f*cking boring as sh*t”, his opening up about the box-office failure of The Last Duel, and that the forthcoming Alien TV show will “never be as good as the movie”. It’s on the latter that this latest piece of news is of interest, because the legendary filmmaker has given an update on the status of his small-screen xenomorph spin-off, as well as that of the Blade Runner adaptation.

While in conversation with the BBC news program Today, the Gladiator director said that development was well underway on the TV adaptation of his 1982 classic Blade Runner, and while it doesn’t have a home yet, they “have already written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible” and that they’re “already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, probably the first 10 hours.”

This led Scott onto the subject of another of his beloved science-fiction properties to be receiving the small-screen treatment, with Fargo‘s Noah Hawley on board to bring the horror of his Alien world to FX. He revealed that the series would be 8-10 hours, and that “Alien is now being written for pilot”.

Next up for Scott following the release of House of Gucci is his Apple TV+ Napoleon Bonaparte biopic Kitbag, which will reunite him with Gladiator‘s Joaquin Phoenix and The Last Duel‘s Jodie Comer.

Before the veteran filmmaker can release another couldn’t-give-a-sh*t statement, let us know what you think of the small-screen prospects for Alien and Blade Runner by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
