Community director Rob Schrab to helm The LEGO Movie sequel

February 25, 2015 by James Garcia

As expected, it’s now been made official that Phil Lord and Chris Miller won’t be returning to helm The LEGO Movie 2. However, they did manage to snag a promising replacement, and will be in charge of scripting duties.

According to TheWrap, Community, Parks and Recreation and The Mindy Project director Rob Schrab will helm the next installment. Lord and Miller will pen the script, based on the story co-written by Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan, which is expected to pick up four years after the original film. The duo had this to say about Schrab coming aboard the newly minted franchise:

“We are so excited to collaborate with Rob. He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!’”

This will mark Schrab’s feature film directorial debut, but with Lord and Miller’s help, and his impressive resume, the franchsie will hopefully be in good, tiny yellow hands.

The LEGO Movie 2 is slated for release on May 26th, 2017.
