Robert Kirkman confirms Steven Yeun’s role in Thunderbolts

November 20, 2023 by EJ Moreno

We’ve long known actor Steven Yeun would star in Thunderbolts, but the character he is playing hasn’t been revealed…until now.

In a new interview, Invincible and The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman spoke about the film, even though he isn’t involved with it, and dropped the bombshell that Yeun would play Sentry.

Speaking with David Finch, Kirkman reveals the big news, which has yet to be officially confirmed:

“My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie. I don’t think this is a spoiler or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know. Maybe. We’ll see. I don’t care. I don’t work for Marvel. What are they gonna do to me? He called me and said, ‘I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes that wear blue & yellow.'”

We first reported the Sentry/Yeun story in February, but with the strike and the rocky start of Marvel, they are seemingly holding things closer.

And for longtime fans of Sentry (we are sure there are some out there), the source material-accurate costume could add some needed admiration to balance out any potential casting backlash in Thunderbolts.

Thunderbolts sees director Jake Schreier helming the project. Little is known about the plot, but the film will follow a group of villains-turned-heroes sent on missions commissioned by the government. Joining the cast are Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross and Steven Yeun as Sentry.

The film is currently slated for a July 25th, 2025 release.
