UPDATE: Matt Reeves reportedly eyeing Jake Gyllenhaal as replacement for Ben Affleck in The Batman

November 16, 2017 by Jordan Jones

UPDATE: In his latest video, John Campea is now claiming that Jake Gyllenhaal is being eyed for the role of Batman, and that Matt Reeves is considering two ideas for his trilogy – one which would serve as a prequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the other as a standalone series of films. Original story follows…

Ben Affleck has once again got the internet fired up over his recent comments about his potential involvement in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman trilogy. A month ago, it seemed Ben was in it for the long haul, but recent comments have seen him play a bit coy on the topic. Not to say he won’t sign on, but it does seem he is approaching the decision carefully. Regardless of the likelihood that he will stay involved, it’s understandable director Matt Reeves has started eyeing other actors. One in particular, it seems. On The John Campea Show, the host reveals some (alleged) insider information regarding an actor that Matt Reeves’ has pegged for Batman should Affleck decide to drop out:

“I’m hesitant to say anything, but I talked to a Hollywood producer yesterday who told me who Matt Reeves wants as Batman. And, I’ll be honest with you, the name they [gave] me caught me a little bit by surprise. I called somebody else later in the day, saying, ‘Hey, I heard this, is there any validity to this?’ And they said, ‘Well, Matt does want him.’ But, that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. There’s been no movement or anything like that. It doesn’t mean anything’s going to happen.”

While we never got a name, it’s still an intriguing bit of information. It seems that, whoever it is, it’s not someone you would immediately think of when casting Batman. Okay internet: time to delve into Matt Reeves’ filmography, and single out actors that you would never cast as Batman. Ready, set, go!

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League reunites Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
