Scarlett Johansson on Lisbeth Salander casting rumours for The Girl in the Spider’s Web

April 9, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Last month, Sony officially announced that it was moving ahead with a follow-up to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, setting Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) to relaunch the Millennium movie series with an adaptation of The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

As part of the announcement, it was confirmed that Rooney Mara would be replaced in the role of Lisbeth Salander, with rumours immediately pointing to Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson as potential candidates.

Well, according to Johansson – who was initially considered for the part of Lisbeth in David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – she is yet to be contacted about the project, but her initial interest in the role stemmed from the prospect of working with Fincher.

“I actually found out about that because somebody mentioned it to me, but it never came through any professional,” Johansson told the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via The Playlist). “It still hasn’t been mentioned to me by anybody I work with. But it’s hard to imagine… such a huge appeal of that project was the ability to collaborate [with David Fincher]. Even our creative conversations in the very early stages, just in that audition process, was really exciting.”

Would you like to see Johansson taking on the role of Lisbeth Salander, and if not who would be your pick? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
