SDCC: Bryan Cranston says there was never any truth to rumours linking him to Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman

July 10, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Before Jesse Eisenberg was cast as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, several websites were reporting that Bryan Cranston was Warner Bros.’ number one choice for the role of the criminal mastermind, with a couple even going as far as to say that he’d signed on for the part.

Well, according to Cranston himself, there was never any truth to it, with the actor telling MTV that: “There was not one conversation. It was all fan driven. They’re thinking, ‘who could play Lex Luthor? Who is bald and could be menacing? Oh, Walter White, we can get that guy.'”

Of course, it helped that these “scoops” came out around the time of Breaking Bad’s finale, ensuring a massive amount of interest in the story, and traffic for the sites in question. But, as with many superhero movie-related rumours, as it turns out it was nothing more than pure fabrication.
